The 3 Main Categories of Websites
The three main categories of websites are:
1. Static Websites
To change the content on any web page, you need to have prior knowledge of website design. In other words, you must be a web developer with the ability to interpret the codes. This is so because you have to open and edit the individual files. As a result, static websites are hard to maintain for non-developers. That means, for non-developers, updating a static website will require hiring a developer. This makes the update process costly.
The initial cost of developing this category of websites can be relatively cheaper. However, maintenance tends to become expensive due to the fact that you will always need a developer.
Unless you intend to leave your website content the same for months or even years, or have that huge sum of money to pay developers for regular updates, this type of website is not a good option.
2. Dynamic Websites
Dynamic websites consist of web pages with dynamic content. This means, their content is ever changing.
3. E-Commerce Websites
E-Commerce stands for electronic commerce. These are websites for selling products and services online (on the internet). Call them online shops or stores. They have the capability of accepting orders and payments.
In this article, we defined a website as collection of web pages and referenced a more detailed article on which to learn more. We identified the three main categories of website as static, dynamic and e-commerce websites. And further noted that static websites have content which does not change, dynamic websites are database driven and their content changes dynamically, while e-commerce websites are used to sell products or services online.
